Subject: Contribution to Fund Internships for Engineering Students
In 2011, the American Public Works Association Monterey Bay Chapter launched an internship program. The Chapter serves as liaison between students and public works agencies/firms willing to hire interns during the summer or school semester. Our goal is to place engineering students with cities, counties, districts or private firms to give students the opportunity to gain some work experience.
Intern positions may include such emphasis as: traffic engineering, development review, transportation engineering, construction management and inspection, storm water pollution prevention, drainage and flood control. Some of the internships are paid (typically around $10-$15 per hour); most assignments would be in the Monterey Bay Area.
The Monterey Bay Chapter is ready to provide up to $6,000 total this year in sponsorships for student interns to member agencies interested in supporting this program (minimum awards would be no less than $500.) If your agency is interested in participating, please submit a proposal containing the following information:
•Name of agency and contact person •Work location and proposed dates/timeframe •Proposed work for student intern •Description of what experience/exposure your agency can offer •Amount your agency would pay for student intern.
Proposals can be emailed to Maria Esther Rodriguez at: firstname.lastname@example.org
Proposals will be accepted through 12 noon, Thursday, April 6, 2017. Proposals will be reviewed and ranked. Sponsorship decision will be made by April 28, 2017. There are students ready to work and learn!
Thank you for your support of our local students! We look forward to a mutually beneficial internship program. Contact Maria Esther via e-mail or at (831) 768-3112 if you have any questions.
